About 720,000 websites under .cn have been registered in China by the end of July 2005, according to latest statistics released by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).

This is the first time China has reached the top slot in this area, making its ccTLD, .cn the largest in Asia. In July about 100,000 websites under the .cn domain name were registered.  The number two in this race for domains is Japan's .jp, with about 630,000 websites registered under its domain name.

"The increasing register number under the CN domain name shows the revival of China's internet industry," said CNNIC Director Mao Wei. Enditem
