Notifies consumers about the misleading domain name offer from Domains Australia.
auDA, an Australian domain name administrator, today released a consumer alert to the public concerning a misleading fax and letter that is being sent to some domain name registrants from Domains Australia Pty Ltd.
auDa reports that the letter/fax offers domain name registrants the opportunity to arrange registration of the net.au equivalent of the registrants com.au domain name for $225. The letter is headed, 'DOMAIN NAME AVAILABLE,' and some versions of it offer a free MP3 player with each registration. Numerous complaints have been forwarded to auDA, stating that although the net.au same is being paid for it is not being registered as stated. The registrants are also not receiving the free MP3 player.
auDA has expressed concerns that the offer from Domains Australia may mislead people into believing that they are renewing their existing com.au domain name when in fact they are purchasing a new net.au name.
