Peak 10, Inc., the Southeast’s leading data center solutions provider, today announced that Big Rock Sports, the industry’s leading fishing tackle supply company, has moved its data center from the North Carolina coast to Peak 10’s state-of-the-art facility in Raleigh, N.C. Peak 10 will host, manage and monitor all of Big Rock’s distributor and e-commerce sites.

Big Rock made the decision to move its data center from Newport, N.C. to Peak 10 as it became apparent that Hurricane Isabel would hit the Carolina coastline and threaten their business. With the help of Peak 10 engineers, the company moved quickly to ensure its business applications and online presence and wholesale operation would not be affected. Big Rock was up and running at Peak 10 before the hurricane made landfall.

“We viewed Hurricane Isabel as a severe threat because even a few hours of down time or loss of data would be devastating to our customers and potentially disastrous for our business,” said Norm Pollock, vice president of information technology for Big Rock Sports. “Peak 10 not only provided a first class facility and business continuity methodology but also the technical expertise and manpower necessary to move our data center quickly.”

Big Rock Sports is comprised of five companies that together make-up one of the sporting goods industry’s largest full service distributors of fishing tackle, camping, and hunting and shooting sports equipment. The company inventories more than 148,000 products and has been serving independent fishing, hunting and shooting sports retailers in North America for more than 25 years.

“Businesses have to make tough decisions every day, business continuity in the face of a natural disaster isn’t normally one of them,” said Ben Griffith, vice president and general manager for Peak 10. “We applaud Big Rock for taking the proper steps to secure their operation and ensure the continuity of their business applications and the security of their corporate data.”

Peak 10 owns and operates state-of-the-art data centers in Tampa and Jacksonville, Fla. and Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C. that are all interconnected by Peak 10’s private network. This geographic diversity and redundancy enables Peak 10 to meet it high availability objective and ensure business continuity for its customers’ business critical applications.
