The Data Center Markup Language (DCML) Organization today announced it has expanded to forty-four members as seven new companies joined the industry-wide DCML standards effort. Joining the DCML Organization are SG Software Solutions, Moonlight Systems, Motive, newScale, Novadigm, Sphera, and Topspin Communications. Led by governing members Computer Associates, EDS and Opsware, the DCML effort continues to gain the support of leading technology companies committed to bringing simplicity, IT system interoperability and utility computing to data centers.

DCML members have direct involvement in helping further define the DCML standard and influence the adoption and implementation of the DCML specification. Organization holds inaugural DCML Working Group meeting Nearly 80 attendees, representing 40 member companies, participated in the inaugural DCML Working Group meeting last week. The group officially approved the first working group charter and reviewed, provided input to, and adopted the DCML Framework contributions as the basis of the group’s work. The DCML Framework will provide the structure for the DCML specification, and define the DCML conceptual model, processing rules and other important features common to all future DCML work. The group also formalized the DCML Organization structure and established a Technical Steering Committee that will support the operations of the DCML organization. The DCML Organization expects to release a public specification for comment early next year.

Initiated in October 2003, DCML is the first vendor-neutral, open language that empowers corporations with the most detailed, accurate and up-to-date information about their data center environment. DCML describes data center environments, dependencies between data center components and the policies governing management and construction of those environments. Automation and utility computing systems require a common understanding of the data center, making DCML a key component to realizing a utility computing environment.

The DCML Organization is an open, independent, vendor neutral, non-profit corporation being formed to create an open, freely licensed specification, Data Center Markup Language (DCML), and to encourage its broad adoption. DCML is the first standard that provides a structured model and encoding to describe, construct, replicate and recover data center environments and elements.
