Excedent Technologies (excedent.com), a provider of managed email hosting with integrated security threat prevention, announced on Monday that the company has officially relocated its worldwide headquarters from Northern Virginia to the campus of Virginia Tech, within the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (vtcrc.com).
According to Excedent, it was founded in Blacksburg in 1999 and its return was prompted by the company's soaring growth as well as senior management ties to the university and surrounding region. Management will immediately begin hiring in Blacksburg, continuing expansion of its workforce.
"Excedent is a young, well-run company with a great entrepreneurial story and deep roots in Blacksburg," commented Joe Meredith, Ph.D., President of the CRC. "Their return to Blacksburg says a lot about what this area has to offer and their presence will certainly add tremendous value to the existing success stories here in the research center."
"We have spent the last few years building our business in very tough economic times," explained Patrick Matthews, CEO of Excedent and Virginia Tech Alumni. "We are proud of our progress and excited to move the company back to Blacksburg and into the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. The CRC has developed into one of the premier technology corridors in the country; with the university right next door, a great deal of opportunities and resources exist for emerging growth technology companies like Excedent."
Execedent 's management listed several reasons for moving back to Blacksburg which include ability to centralize operations and easily expand within the research park, immediate access to engineering talent coming out of Virginia Tech, networking opportunities presented by the university and research park, quality of life and lower cost of living for employees and ability to recruit and retain senior management.
