New application offers administrative controls and integration with IBM Lotus Notes and Google Mini.
Google Inc., today announced the launch of its Google Desktop Search for Enterprise.
The free downloadable application enables companies to provide its employees with the ability to search for information on their computers. Based on Google's desktop search application for consumers, it adds enterprise-level security, configuration and deployment controls, and the ability to search the full text of IBM Lotus Notes messages. It is the first desktop search tool to access the full text of a user's web page history and the one to search AOL instant messages, claims the company.
Google Desktop Search for Enterprise offers full integration with the Google Search Appliance and Google Mini to deliver search results and convenient searching from the desktop, intranet and Google.com. The tool also offers a centralized administration and security for the enterprise.
"Finding information quickly in business is more than a convenience - it's a necessity. With the addition of Google Desktop Search for Enterprise, businesses of all sizes can offer their employees one-stop Google search for the desktop, intranet, or web," said Dave Girouard, general manager of Google's enterprise business.
The company also announced that the Google PR team will host the Google Factory Tour, viewable via webcast. The event will be an informative day for journalists and industry analysts, covering a wide variety of aspects of Google's products and business. Speakers will include members of Google's executive management team, and other key company executives. The Google Factory Tour will take place from 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. PT.
