Equinix, Inc., the leading provider of network-neutral data centres and Internet exchange services, services, today announced that Hong Kong Education City (HKedCity) has selected Equinix's Hong Kong Internet Business Exchange (IBX) center as the major point of presence (PoP) to host its mission-critical e-learning platform and Internet portal. Under the agreement, Equinix will provide a customized colocation solution within Equinix's state-of-the-art data center environment. The move will enable HKedCity to directly interconnect with the aggregation of networks at Equinix's neutral center, providing the fastest and highest-performance end-user experience for HKedCity visitors while reducing overall costs.

Hong Kong Education City Ltd is a government-owned subsidiary that has assumed operation of the Hong Kong Education City web site, an initiative designed to promote IT in education and to build a one-stop education portal for teachers, students and parents. Through this network, the HKedCity, the general public can share information, collaborate online and enjoy access to E-learning facilities. The HKedCity web site is now recognized as the largest and most popular educational web site in Hong Kong, with around three million visitors per day.

It can also optimize its Internet traffic worldwide by leveraging the peering advantages at Equinix's robust international exchanges.
