Immunix, Inc., the leading provider of application security solutions for Linux, announced the availability of the Immunix Application Firewalling Suite, a flexible and easy-to-deploy host intrusion prevention solution for protecting Linux applications. The proliferation of automated attack scripts has made it increasingly easy for hackers to exploit the insecurities that are inherent to most enterprise software. The Immunix Application Firewalling Suite is the first application security product for the Linux 2.6 kernel that automates the protection of Linux application and operating system functions to minimize the downtime and costs associated with computer attacks.
Most companies already deploy strong perimeter and network defense products such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems. With increasing success, hackers are bypassing perimeter security solutions and tunneling in through legitimate access points to exploit vulnerabilities in host applications. Usually, companies rely on vendor patches to protect their applications but find that this reactive strategy leaves their critical assets exposed to attack until an acceptable patch is installed. Already the software industry is calling for stronger host-based protection even though IS organizations object to its complexity and cost. According to Gartner, Inc. in their report "It's Time for Host-based Security Platforms" by 2006, 50 percent of enterprise servers and 30 percent of corporate PCs will incorporate host-based security agents.
"Government and businesses have started to demand that vendors provide adequate operating system and application security," said Cheryl Traverse, CEO of Immunix. "We architected the Immunix Application Firewalling Suite to give Linux application developers and business users the strongest, most flexible and easiest-to-use security and management tools for the job."
Immunix has created a flexible, automated way to contain vulnerable Linux programs, even providing containment for sub-processes and scripts, so that attackers can't exploit hidden software flaws to gain control of the system. Based on their patented SubDomain™ access control technology, Immunix proactively protects the operating system, services, modules and all Linux applications from outsider or insider threats, even protecting against software vulnerabilities that exist in the application but have yet to be discovered.
The Immunix Application Firewalling Suite allows applications developers and users to easily identify and isolate programs while continuing to allow these programs to interact in controlled ways. As a result, operations that need to take place can take place, while unauthorized operations are prevented, similar to the way that network firewalls permit authorized traffic to pass and reject all other traffic.
