Brazilian and Latin American clients can now reserve domain names without going through an American company; can reserve with special characters.
Nomer.com, a Brazil based company, today announced that ICANN has approved it to become first Registrar in Latin America.
According to the company, this will allow the Brazilian and Latin American markets to reserve domain names without going through an American company. Currently, there are 7,15,000 domain names ending in .com.br versus 78,000 ending in .com that have been reserved by Brazilians. The approval was given at the same time as the introduction of domain names with special characters (IDN). Clients can reserve domain names ending in .com and .net that include cedillas and accents (for example: pãodeaçucar.com).
"Now web hosting companies can use Nomer to allow their customers to get domain names ending in .com, .net, .org without going through NetworkSolutions," said Ricardo Vaz Monteiro, Nomer's director.
