The report evaluated vendors in both the ability to execute and vision categories. According to Gartner, vendors in the Magic Quadrant have their own capabilities to block or filter unwanted email traffic, provide email virus scanning and offer basic email intrusion prevention capabilities. Gartner evaluated vendors according to 7 categories in terms of vision: spam management, management, value-added AV capabilities, research and content, multiple delivery models, outbound content filtering, e-mail encryption.
