SoftLayer Technologies, an on-demand data center services provider, yesterday announced the launch of Build Your Own Cloud, a new addition to its leading CloudLayer family of cloud services. The company mentions that Build Your Own Cloud lets customers create customized cloud servers to gain greater application performance, cost efficiency, and availability.

It lists the following key benefits of the Build Your Own Cloud service:

• Customized CPU, RAM, and storage configurations
• No fixed resource packages
• Increased flexibility for scaling or modifying solution

The company avers that previously, service providers have only offered fixed cloud server sizes or configurations. This made cloud solutions less efficient options for administrators wanting to optimize a server for the applications it would run (every application requires a different ratio of CPU power, memory, or storage for best performance).
