Company's membership with Anti-Phishing Working Group will help in preventing internet crimes like phishing, e-mail spoofing and crimeware.
The Planet, a privately held dedicated hosting company, today announced its membership in the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), an industry association focused on eliminating online identity theft and fraud.
The company says that it is a member of the APWG, joining businesses and agencies worldwide in fighting the growing problem of phishing, e-mail spoofing and crimeware. Further, it says that the organization facilitates several working groups dedicated to these issues, with focused subjects including Internet practices, phishing education and policy.
"We host more than 12 million Web sites, so The Planet is deeply invested in promoting Internet best practices and education," said Stan Barber, The Planet's vice president of network operations. "Phishing is one of the biggest problems plaguing users of the Internet today. With our involvement in the APWG, our goal is to stay on the forefront of how to prevent these types of Internet crimes and how best to handle them when they occur. Using this knowledge, we want to provide opportunities for our customers to become better educated so they can avoid becoming victims of online fraud."
