Hosts KatrinaHousing.org, a web site launched to coordinate placement of Hurricane Katrina's victims into temporary housing.
Verio, a provider of IP and managed hosting solutions, yesterday announced that it is donating its technology services to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina who need temporary housing.
Verio is hosting KatrinaHousing.org web site. It is designed to centralize and organize volunteer housing efforts for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The site, created by MyTechSupport web design firm, invites those interested in donating housing to log onto the site and post offers of rooms, vacant apartments, houses or other housing options that they are willing to donate to the victims.
According to the company, active since September 1, KatrinaHousing.org has been accessed by 20,000 Internet users per day, delivering more that 20 gigabytes of traffic. It also said that 138,000 offers of free housing have been posted to the site, and 4,100 Katrina survivors to date have been placed into temporary housing.
"We are working with colleagues such as MyTechSupport to support and quickly implement practical solutions that can quickly and immediately assist families affected by the hurricane. We are pleased we could readily deploy Web hosting resources to help this important project," said Calvin Quan, acting CEO of Verio.
