Latest deployment part of planned global expansion with Terremark in Spain.

Terremark Worldwide, Inc., a provider of IT infrastructure services, today announced that VeriSign, Inc., a provider of internet infrastructure services for the networked world, has expanded its internet infrastructure by deploying additional infrastructure in the company's Madrid facility, the NAP de las Americas Madrid. The deployment is part of VeriSign's Project Titan initiative to strengthen and secure its global Internet infrastructure, says the company.

It claims that in addition to its deployment in Spain, VeriSign has previously deployed core internet infrastructure at the NAP of the Americas in Miami. VeriSign's infrastructure in the Miami facility includes primary generic Top Level Domain servers for .com and .net.

The company further explains that traffic volume continues to increase with the emergence of consumer-driven services, the surge in web-connected wireless devices and the proliferation of technologies and services using the Domain Name System. VeriSign processes a peak of more than 48 billion DNS queries per day under normal traffic conditions. VeriSign has benefited from being a part of the company's peering network at the NAP of the Americas that provides connectivity to more than 160 global carrier networks. It adds that by joining its peering network, VeriSign has helped deliver faster and more reliable traffic exchange across the company's peering network thereby increasing the "paths" to the Internet for end users.
