ZyXEL Communications Inc. today unveiled its new Unified Security Gateway product line with the ZyWALL USG300, offering a major security upgrade to small to medium businesses.

The first in a series of enhanced security solutions from ZyXEL Communications, the security gateway provides 48 Mbps throughput with all UTM features like intrusion detection and prevention, anti-virus and content filtering enabled. In addition to enhanced performance, the new security series features hybrid SSL and IPSec VPN, multiple high availability options and seven configurable gigabit ports placing the ZyWALL USG300 as a feature-rich, SMB-based security product on the market.

The company claims that the new offering is ideal for businesses with up to 200 PC users and that the USG300's flexible configuration helps network administrators set up the network and enforce security policies more efficiently. Its SSL VPN design also allows telecommuters and home workers to access data more easily and safely at home.

To ensure zero downtime, the company has added multiple high availability options including VPN high availability, WAN high availability and device high availability, without requiring any firmware upgrades. The USG300 offers ZyXEL channel partners a complete high performing, manageable solution for their mid-market customers and the opportunity to generate recurring revenue from security services.

Additional features include bandwidth management, multiple-WAN failover and load balancing, and a unique Extension Card Slot that enables customers to upgrade to future technology and features that include access for HSPDA and EVDO cellular data networks as backup for network failover.
